Well, I've finished my commission for the 'Horror on the Orient Express' project. All my maps are off to the art director/Head honcho Mark Morrison and once they've been greenlit I only need to send the TIFF files.

PHEW!

Saturday 15 June 2013

Well, with the word coming down from Badger that the Call of Cthulhu 7E will be full colour I'm going to have to review my colour ideas. Weirdly, I wanted a full colour book but I can't help thinking that greyscale maps offer more tone and help portray horror better... I'll just have to soften some colours and I'm sure Badger or Meghan will send me good feedback (they always do and its this that makes me think that Chaosium's future is brighter than ever).

Also, my Horror on the Orient Express commission draws to a close this week. 30+ maps plus (mostly) 3 variants of each map based on colour and whether its for the Keepers or Players means I should be thankful. Not only for the support given to me by Mark Morrison and Meghan McLean (who.are.AWESOME.) but also to my muse for getting me through such a huge commission! It's the biggest one I've ever had. When you get your copy (and you should) I'd be very grateful if you could comment here and let me know your preferences for future styles.. Was that use of colour too much? Would that stroke look better thicker? Or did you just love/hate that map and wanted to let me know why?

It's all good feedback and I appreciate anyone taking the time to tell me.

Some newsy type stuff I've been eager to spread:

Stygian Fox Publishing (SFP) and Chaosium, Inc. proudly announce an agreement allowing Stygian Fox to begin publishing official Call of Cthulhu role-playing game supplements.

While we have no firm release dates at present, but we're hoping the first book will appear at your FLGS, Chaosium's site, and our own site before the end of Q3 2013.

'The Things We Leave Behind' is our first book and will be a collection of modern day scenarios veering in a darkly disturbing direction.

We want to bring Cthulhu adventures, specifically modern ones, to a more mature audience and back to it's horror roots. We will aim to shock and horrify your players and much of our material will be geared at mature gamers. They will deal will with difficult and horrific subjects such as abductions, murder, and the stark knowledge that mankind itself can be more cold and calculating than anything from time & space.

There are no cuddly plushies here.

Stygian Fox are a collection of writers & artists who have had experience with gaming and horror before and are looking to deepen the terror for Cthulhu gamers.

Steff. J. Worthington is the owner and has been a map artist for 20 years but is a graphic designer by trade. Game-wise he's been seen in print for Chaosium, Vigilance Press, Mongoose, and Miskatonic River Press.

Jeffrey Moeller is the Cthulhu Line Editor and writer and has been writing published scenarios and campaigns for Call of Cthulhu and dark fantasy for 20 years, including scenarios in The Unspeakable Oath, Mortal Coils, The Resurrected: Out of the Vault, The Whisperer magazine, as well as The Primal State and The Sevenfold Path.

Simon Brake is one of our writers and is a creative artworker by day but takes time out to roleplay in dark and disturbing fictional worlds at night.

Adrian Gawain Jones is a writer and who has recently been working on a number of projects for Cakebread & Walton as well as Steam Driven Publishing.

Alyssa Faden is a cartographer and considers every mapping commission to be a privileged step into the mind of another person; seeing the mystical and fantasy worlds that they have created.

Jay Tillotson is our Webmistress and has been designing websites for a number of years and with experience in design, copywriting, web development and search marketing, our website is in safe hands.

The website is currently being updated but bookmark us to see what's coming here: http://www.stygianfox.com/
